Should you use a steam mop on hardwood floors?
Yes–as long as your hardwood floors are sealed. Most hardwood floors are sealed so it’s not a problem as long as you use your steam mop on the lowest or medium settings. Several of these cordless mops have steam functionality, so if that’s something you want to look for make sure to select that one!
Below, I’ve included several types of cordless mops–some have heat some don’t, so regardless of what type of floors you have, there is a mop perfect for your home!
Things to look for in a cordless mop:
#1: Battery Life and Rechargeable Batteries
When you go looking for an electric mop, it needs to have a long battery life. Long battery life will keep you going for hours of cleaning without needing to stop to recharge! Having a quick-charge function will ensure you don’t take a break too long when you do need to charge.
#2: Machine Washable Pads:
Nothing is worse than disposable pads that end up in a landfill somewhere and require you to keep buying new. The cordless mop you purchase should have pads you can disconnect and wash so that you can reuse them. The reusable pads need to be quality materials that can withstand high temperatures to ensure all germs and bacteria die in your washing machine.
#3: Number of Surfaces it Cleans
An electric mop should be safe enough to use on all types of surfaces, including hardwood, linoleum, and marble as the most common floors. Having a mop that has versatility makes it so you can clean all over your home without needing a separate mop or different type of cleaner. Look for different levels of steam heat so you can use it on different surfaces.
#4: Weight
A good quality mop will also be lightweight enough for everyone to use. You need to find one that, when filled with water, will be easy to move around the floor without being too heavy. A heavy mop makes doing the housework hard; make sure you look at the weight of the mop with and without soap and water.
#5: The Shape of the Mop Head
The shape of the mop head or heads can help you determine whether or not the mop will fit into the tight areas around your home. The corners, in particular, can be difficult to clean, and the wrong type of mop head will just move grime and dirt around in the corners. The type of pads can also make a difference in the shape of the mop head. They can sweep in and out of the corners to remove types of dirt.
#6: Steam Cleaning and Waxing
Some types of electric mops allow you to do more than mop your floor. If you need extra features like steam cleaning for added health reasons or waxing to buff up your hardwood floor, look for a model that does both. The best mop for you is the one that prevents you from having to buy a second mop to wax or steam your floor–several of these mops have steam functionality so you can use it on tile floors too!
