As soon as we knew we were going to have the girls share a room, I knew I wanted to make a DIY crib skirt for Brooke’s crib to visually tie the beds together. (See Bowe’s bed here.) Although there are plenty of beautiful crib skirts on the market (I’ve rounded up my favorites at the bottom,) I wanted to make a custom one that coordinated with Bowe’s headboard. Luckily, it was an easy project that only took a morning with my mother-in-law’s help and one yard of fabric.

DIY CRIB SKIRT
MATERIALS FOR DIY CRIB SKIRT:
- One flat sheet
- Measurements: 52 1/2″ x 28″
- I used remnants of an old sheet I was planning on throwing out; but, you could use any sheet you have
- Two yards of fabric
- I used this fabric for the pink buffalo check
- The way we oriented our crib, we only needed two sides. However, I would recommend more yards so you have plenty.
- For the long front section: 55″ x 20″
- For the foot of the bed: 33″ x 20″
- Ribbon to secure the fabric on the back side of the crib
- I used leftover grosgrain ribbon fabric. If you do all four sides of the crib skirt you won’t need the ribbon
- Fabric Shears
- Sewing Machine
- Pins
- Tape Measure
- Pencil or Marker
- Iron
DIRECTIONS for DIY CRIB SKIRT:
1.) First, take the measurements of the size of the crib bed skirt desired. We made our’s the height for the tallest position on our adjustable crib. The DIY crib skirt is going to be three pieces: the crib decking (center section) which is your old sheet, and the two side panels (or four side panels if you want the crib skirt to go all the way around.)
2.) Trace the seam line on the crib decking sheet, and just mark where the bracket openings will be.
3.) Now, it’s time for the side panels. Cut the side panels to your desired measurements. Hem the sides and the bottom for a clean edge.
Hem the sides of both panels:
Hem the bottom of both panels:
And sew.
the.) Now it’s time to attach the side panels to the decking right sides together. Make sure to leave a gap represented by the two pins (so the brackets can be threaded through the holes.) See photos below.
5.) After you pin the sides together and before you sew the panels together, attach the ribbons to the corner posts and the back posts. If you are planning on using four side panels, you can skip this step; however, if you are only using two side panels, you need to attach these ribbons so that the finished DIY crib skirt stays in place. The ribbons attach to the spindles on the crib which secure it.
6.) Turn right-side out and press. Next, place it on the crib, threading the crib brackets through the sleeve by unscrewing the crib bracket and then re-attaching it once the DIY crib skirt is in place.
7.) Tie the ribbons, securing the crib bed skirt in place.

Dear Decor Mom:
I plan to make my daughter a crib bed skirt. However, she has yet to assemble the bed!! I wanted to complete my project asap. I see you recommend the overall size as 53×28 but I wondered what length did you use for the drop?? Thank you.
