Have you ever lusted after those adorable decorative clipboards only to scoff at the prices? Me too! So I set out to create some DIY decorative clipboards that cost under $4 a piece. Today, we’ll go over the step-by-step instructions (so easy and under 20 minutes) and then, I will show you in this post, how we use these free printables to organize all of our grocery shopping and meal plans!
How to Make a DIY Decorative Clipboard
Materials:
Con-tact paper (available online or at cheaper at Michaels)
Mod Podge (cheaper at Michaels)
Ruler
Craft Knife
Paint brush
Decorative paper (less than $0.50 each at Michaels)
Directions:
1.) First, lay the piece of paper on the clipboard. Trace with a pencil the outline of the clip.
You can see where I traced the line below.
Cut out this little piece.
See how nicely it fits now with the cut out?
2.) Next, you need to trace the decorative paper onto the Con-Tact paper. After tracing it, put the Con-Tact paper aside. You will put the Con-Tact paper on last.
3.) Apply a thin layer of Mod Podge onto the clipboard with a paintbrush. Then attach the decorative piece of paper on top. Smooth out any bubbles the center outward.
5.) Next trace the outline for the bottom section. The decorative piece of paper is a little too short to cover the entire clipboard surface. You can either use a second piece of decorative paper in the same pattern, or a contrasting one. Here by using a second complementary decorative piece of paper, I made it look deliberate. However, I have also used two different looks: the same pattern in the same orientation, or the same pattern in a different orientation. Repeat the process for the second piece of decorative paper (trace, cut, Mod Podge).
6.) Last you need to apply the top layer, the layer of Con-Tact paper. This will create a more resilient surface. Spread it from bottom to top.
You are done! Now just print out your lists! Make sure to come back tomorrow and check back in with Katie and me for some free organizing printables! I will be sharing our menu planning and grocery shopping lists with editable documents!
