Every fall, I see all the orange and black Halloween decor and wish that there was a different option for those of us who like to keep our fall and Halloween decor a bit more glam. Well, this year, I decided to DIY it with the help of Krylon Dual® Superbond® Paint + Primer from Ace Hardware.
GLAM HALLOWEEN DECOR
I like to think of our home style as classic with a twist, and I set that mood for guests immediately upon entering. That’s why I gave our Halloween decor the same treatment! The skeletons, pumpkins, and skulls all have a modern glam twist that fits right in with our front foyer.
By using several different Krylon® spray paint colors for the Halloween decor, I was able to create a layered mix of metallics to create an interesting vignette that is anything but expected! If I had to use brush-on paint the entire process would have taken a day; but, by using spray paint, I was able to spray paint all the pieces quickly (less than 30 minutes) and they were dry to handle within 2 hours!
I love using Krylon® Dual® Superbond® spray paint because it saves me so much time with sanding and prep. It even bonds to typically hard-to-adhere surfaces like our plastic pumpkins! It has maximum rust protection (which is great for outdoor projects,) and it’s fast drying! I had no runs or drips with the EZ Touch 360Ëš Dial Spray Tip–something I’ve struggled with in the past using other spray paint brands; but, don’t have to worry about anymore with Krylon®. Everything was dry to touch within 25 minutes or less and dry to handle in two hours.

DIRECTIONS FOR SPRAY PAINTING GLAM HALLOWEEN DECOR:
- Total dry time: 2 hours
- Active project time: 30 minutes
To prepare the Halloween decor to be spray painted, I simply cleaned it with a wet microfiber cloth and made sure it was free of any flaking paint. That’s it! With Krylon® Dual® Superbond® Paint + Primer I don’t have to prime or sand! Next, I took the items outside. You must always spray paint in a well-ventilated area and set them up on cardboard boxes. You can do the same thing with a drop cloth, but I like using cardboard because it sits nicely on top of the grass.
After reading the label for safety and application instructions, apply a thin even coat of spray paint. Rather than trying to get your spray paint to cover it all in one coat, make several thin coats for the best and most professional coverage.
Remember to keep your arm going back and forth with the spray paint. Let the spray painted decor dry for two hours before handling. I like to let mine fully harden overnight and then bring it in the next day.
TIPS FOR STAGING A GLAM HALLOWEEN VIGNETTE
To create a glam fall vignette, start by first considering the basic principles of design. If the focal point is a console table, you’ll want to think about the space around it in three sections. First, you need to create height in one of the sections, depth in another, and then add texture somewhere else. For this glam Halloween vignette, I used pumpkins of different sizes, a large skeleton to create height, and several different spray paint colors for interest.
Styling tips for any vignette:
- Divide your space into thirds
- Balance objects so one side doesn’t seem lopsided
- Layer metallics and texture to create a varied and interesting look
- Embrace white space!
To create our glam Halloween vignette, I created three zones on the top of the console table (the books at the far left, white space in the middle, and the skeleton on the far right.) I also used the rule of thirds with the top of the vignette, the bench below, and then the floor: three different areas all have different objects. I played with height by adding the stack of books under the cauldron and varied the heights of the pumpkins on the floor.
Tip for creating any vignette: Place items in groups of three or five—they look natural and more eclectic that way!
