And here it is originally, in Bowie’s old nursery at our old apartment!
Hi loves! Sorry for the absence yesterday. Big things are in the works. I had some minor glitches with the new site (soon to be unveiled) and a big ol’ scare but luckily E was able to help me out. Thank God for Google searches, and WordPress help forums.
Here is a DIY I have had up my sleeve for awhile but finally got around to photographing. I was inspired by (yet again) one of Furbish’s items for sale which I cannot afford. I originally posted about my plan here. I am really happy with the results and love how it looks in B’s room! It looks perfect alongside the DIY Pom Pom Box! This project was so easy–seriously, any elementary school student could do it. Trace shapes, cut shapes, glue shapes. Done!
The Inspiration:
Furbish’s Pink Otomi Print (no longer on the site, but here is the red version, and the blue version). It retails for $28 unframed.
The Process:
First, I printed out the free printable from Lena Corwin for an otomi pattern from here. Bonus points if you remember to buy ink for your printer before you do it (unlike me).
Next I selected which pattern I wanted.
Then I grabbed my pink craft paper which I bought from Paper Source because I was lazy and didn’t want to drive all the way to Michael’s.
I swear I am not flipping you off. I am just trying to show the outline.
After tracing it, I set to cutting out the shapes.
And then I glued them onto a heavier quality piece of paper using a glue stick. Then I stuck them in an Ikea Ribba frame. Remember to measure the inside width of the mat because I didn’t and luckily was saved by my mother-in-law who made a custom mat for me. Ikea frames are funky sizes and the standard 8.5 x 11 piece of paper I worked on was too big for the opening of the standard Ikea mat.
Even with the minor hiccoughs, this project was so easy and so rewarding. I think it is perfect for B’s room! Total cost of the project was $12.99 ($4.99 for the paper (I have a ton left over) and $7.99 for the frame). Not bad considering the alternative was spending $28 print + S/H + $7.99 frame if I had bought it!

Looks great! I was planning on DIYing this too…but never occured to me to just use colored paper! I was going to stencil it!

Thank you! I know I was trying to figure out the same dilemma–how to stencil it with a uniform color (not showing the brush strokes). You can always count on Furbish for inspiration! Have a wonderful time at Haven!
