How to Make Your Bathroom Feel Like a Spa: Wish you could have a spa-like bathroom in your own house? Here are five tips to make your bathroom as luxurious as a spa, including the best toilet paper—Quilted Northern Ultra Plush®! Because having really nice luxurious toilet paper will truly change how your bathroom feels!
HOW TO MAKE YOUR BATHROOM FEEL LIKE A SPA
I’ll never forget the first time I went to a spa. I was a month away from my wedding, and my sister-in-law gave me a gift certificate for a massage at an amazing spa in Chicago where we lived at the time. I was a little nervous never having had a massage before but the minute I entered the spa, I noticed the eucalyptus aroma wafting through the air and I started to relax.
After checking in at the front reception desk, I went to the spa bathroom to get changed and I was absolutely blown away. There was a dedicated locker room where there were mounds of folded fluffy white towels, baskets of toilet paper, and all the personal toiletries you might ever need–even mouthwash–all tastefully displayed on the counter. It was the most luxurious bathroom I had ever seen, and I’ve thought about it many a time when designing my own bathroom years later.
While we can’t all have a spa bathroom in our houses (umm who has room for a sauna), there are several design choices you can make to make it as relaxing as a spa!
SPA BATHROOM DECOR IDEAS
By making the right design choices, and some small tweaks, you can easily make your own bathroom feel like a spa in no time! Here’s a list of five things you can do to make your bathroom feel relaxing and luxurious!
- Maximize the comfort factor
- Choose relaxing paint colors
- Integrate woven textures
- Create a relaxing aroma with scented candles or diffusers
- Add art and personality
1. MAXIMIZE THE COMFORT FACTOR
We all love those spa bathrooms because there is a plethora of lovely products–baskets of the softest toilet paper, piles of freshly folded soft towels, and clean bathroom countertops that are relaxing to the eye. Do the same in your bathroom! Stock up on your favorite products and display them tastefully in your bathroom.
In our master bathroom, we have a beautiful woven basket of Quilted Northern toilet paper right next to the toilet. I always buy Quilted Northern because it’s three times more absorbent and three times thicker than the leading value brand. Don’t believe me–read the reviews online and then add it to your cart! It’s so easy to order it on Amazon using the mobile app! And the Supreme Roll is more than four times bigger than their regular roll, so you can worry less about changing your toilet paper roll (this improvement was designed for married couples–no, I kid 🙂 Simply put, Quilted Northern is just really nice toilet paper, and using a luxuriously soft toilet paper makes our bathroom experience more relaxing!
2. RELAXING SPA BATHROOM PAINT COLORS: 6 BEST COLORS
In any spa bathroom, you will notice that they only use relaxing paint colors. No reds, oranges, or yellows can be found–those colors are too lively! Instead, you will find lots of soft grays, warm whites, and cool blues, maybe even some earthy green tones. To make our bathroom more relaxing, we painted over the dark brown walls with a light, fresh, and soft white paint color: White Dove. The new paint transformed the bathroom and made it feel clean, which allows me to relax! Here are some of my favorite paint colors for a relaxing bathroom:
- Parma Blue- a soft light blue
- Balboa Mist– a clean but warm light gray
- Pale Oak– a warmer but still clean light gray
- White Dove– a warm white (what we used)
- Stonington Gray- a bluish gray
- Gray Owl– a ruddier bluish gray
3. INTEGRATE NATURAL TEXTURES AND PLANTS
Bathrooms often feel sterile and cold. Integrate a variety of natural textures and living (or faux) plants to bring some life into your bathroom and make it feel like a spa! By using several woven baskets to corral fresh towels and rolls of toilet paper, I warmed up the bathroom and decorated it like any other room in our house. Don’t be afraid of bringing plants into your bathroom either–many plants will love the humidity!
4. INFUSE YOUR BATHROOM WITH RELAXING AROMAS
In the spa, I was greeted by an amazing aroma of eucalyptus and thyme at the front door. By adding relaxing aromas to your bathroom, you, too, can create a relaxing atmosphere. I like to have a candle by my bathtub so I can light it when I take baths, but other people might prefer diffusing essential oils to relax or using sachets of dried lavender or potpourri. It’s totally up to you–whatever makes you relax, integrate it into your bathroom!
5. ADD ART AND PERSONALITY TO YOUR SPACE
We decorate every other room in our house but often fail to decorate our bathrooms. Believe me, this is not something that happens in spa bathrooms–those are always designed and decorated to a tee! By adding a large abstract painting print to our bathroom, we added personality and definition to a large empty wall. Don’t be afraid to display fun pieces of art in your bathroom, too! I love using abstract prints because of the many colors, but use what art speaks to you 😉
In summary, these five easy tips will transform your bathroom and make your home bathroom feel like a spa!
- Maximize the comfort factor- remember it’s easy to order the best toilet paper on Amazon!
- Choose relaxing paint colors- no reds, yellows, or oranges here!
- Integrate woven textures- add a woven basket with toilet paper and plush towels!
- Create a relaxing aroma with scented candles, diffusers, or potpourri!
- Add art and personality to your space to make it reflect your tastes
