We are still working on the finishing touches in Jack’s nursery. We really wanted to make it a room that is gender neutral and would work for more kids down the road, so we tried to stay as neutral as possible. See here where we left off (curtains and rocking chair re-dos.) *Update the top photo is how the room currently looks because Jack has started rolling over, we have started changing him on his bed instead. For how I added color to his room see How To Add Color to A Neutral Nursery.
So here is how the changing table started out. Not ugly but not good either. It was seriously dated but it is a solid piece of furniture and HEAVY. So I replaced the hardware and painted it a high gloss charcoal (I was going for jet black but I think it still works).
I used Onyx in the Benjamin Moore Advance line which is low VOC. Still to be extra safe, I finished the project before Jack arrived and let it air out in his nursery for a few weeks.
You can see that I ended up going with a grid of Sharon Montrose animal photographs above the changing table and a mirror above the crib. My mother-in-law found the mirror at a Homegoods for get this $26! Thankfully she Facetimed me and then picked it up right then! I think the circular shape looks good and breaks up all the angular lines present in the rest of the nursery.
On the to-do list- paint that door white, build and paint some ledge bookshelves, refinish a headboard and footboard and attach to bed, hang deer antlers. Oh, and adore this little munchkin below!

This table is gorgeous. I just love when people use their furniture in unconventional ways. It makes all the change. And the whole nursery is cozy!
I hope you will share it at Idea Box this week :
