After six short weeks, I am so proud to present you with our before and after downstairs bathroom (affectionately called our powder room even though it has a full shower.) It turned out even prettier than I ever dreamt! Full sources below.
And The Ugly Duckling before…
In the past six weeks, we have been busy doing the following:
- Painting all trim
- Painting all walls
- Installing bead board and painting
- Making a DIY Roman Shade
- Installing budget friendly art
- Building a recessed medicine cabinet
- Fixing the toilet (well technically, it was my amazing father-in-law who fixed all the plumbing!)
- Replacing vent covers, outlets, and light switches, and installed toilet paper holder!
- Spray painting bamboo ladder for Turkish Towels
We started off with this inspiration:
Which turned into this…
Next week, I promise to show you inside the recessed medicine cabinet that my handy hubby E designed and built all by himself! Spoiler alert: we had to build around a few studs so it is a little tinier than originally planned but works great!
We ended up keeping the original sink and toilet which aren’t my favorites but they look so much better with some new paint on the walls! Doing a real renovation on a budget calls for some creativity and accounting, and when it isn’t necessary it isn’t happening!
And with a horrible cough, and cold, and Election Hangover I am off to bed. But make sure to check up on all the other amazing reveals at Calling It Home! If you want to catch up on the last six weeks check out my weekly progress below.

This is GORGEOUS! Love the changes you made that don’t break the bank (like new toilets/sinks)! And that art and towels are just perfection.

I love this powder room! The first time I did the ORC, I redid our powder room, and we must have very similar tastes. I went with blue walls and bead board, and even brought in a pop of coral/pink in the towel that hangs in there. Great minds think alike:)

It looks cheerful and clean. Go Parma Blue.
No one commented on the hand held bidet wand. They can be a worthwhile addition. Any leakage issues?
Annie says
Hahah! Yes! It is actually our cloth diaper sprayer and I completely forgot that it was in there! But it could definitely be a hand held bidet–although it is pretty powerful 🙂 We have had zero leakage issues and had it for five years now! It is from Bum Genius! Thanks so much for commenting!
