HOW TO MAKE YOUR HOME COZY AND INVITING
-
ADD THROW PILLOWS
The easiest way to make a room instantly cozier and more comfortable is to add throw pillows! Everyone loves sitting on a comfy couch with plush throw pillows. Adding accent pillows is an easy way to update any room–whether it is just for the season or for longer! I have done my fair share of pillow projects in this house! Read how to make your own designer throw pillows here (plus I share my favorite source for down pillow inserts that won’t break the bank!) and my absolute favorite sources for affordable throw pillows that are designer quality and all under $25!

2. ADD BLANKETS
This might seem obvious, but not only do blankets keep you warm but they instantly make a room seem more “lived in” and comfortable. We have an abundance of throw blankets in our house, but it makes for plenty of layering options for anyone who stays. I keep one throw blanket on each sofa in the formal living room, and two for our family room. Each bedroom has a throw blanket as well. I love this $12 throw blanket pictured above!
Plus visually, adding a soft blanket makes a room look more layered and collected over time. I love having an extra throw blanket for guests, and always try to make sure there is at least one extra in each room in our house!
3. DIFFUSE SOME OILS OR LIGHT A CANDLE
Smell is a powerful thing. Just by smelling a certain scent, I can be transported to a memory in my mind twenty years ago. This time of year, I love diffusing my essential oils (this is the chicest diffuser) to keep the house clean and smelling good. But, I also love lighting candles (but I have to make sure they are nowhere close to children’s reach!)
4. ADD CURTAINS
Curtains soften a room and instantly make it feel grander, while simultaneously making it seem more finished and homey. Plus, during the winter months (we have horribly cold winters here along Lake Michigan) they provide one more layer of insulation on those frosty days. If you think you have to spend a fortune on them though, you are completely wrong! Here I share all my tips on DIY Curtains for your home plus my favorites in case you want to buy them in-store instead of DIYing!
